Restaurant in Korea serves up aloha spirit

On a recent trip to Korea with our production team filming for our new series, "Korea Mania," I came across a restaurant in the city of Busan called Ono. What are the chances that "ono," which means delicious in Hawaiian, could possibly have another meaning in Korean or another language? I called and asked and, sure enough, the owner was a Hawaii resident for 12 years before moving back to Korea. Owner Hyun Kyu Hwang greeted us with aloha and opened his restaurant, giving us a taste of Spam musubi, loco moco and mac salad; he even had bentos on the menu. I was at the fish market earlier in the day and purchased some live snow crabs, and asked Hwang to whip them up for me. He made tomato cream-sauce pasta with a kick of pepper, topped by the crab. It was opulent and one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. Ono is located near the Westin Chosun hotel in Haeundae. Look for the Benecity apartment complex and you will find Ono on the street level.
