Kids eat, golf free at 3 Prince hotels

Prince Resorts Hawaii is offering two children’s programs at their hotels on Oahu and the Big Island. Kids Eat Free is valid from April 1 to Sept. 30, and Kids Golf Free is offered from April 1 through Dec. 8.

The hotels are:

» Oahu: Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club.

» Big Island: Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.

Both programs are available to registered guests, and parents must accompany their children. The Kids Eat Free program is limited to two children per one paying adult.

Learn more about marine preserve

Hilo » "From the Mountains to the Sea," an educational adventure, is set from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Moku­pa­papa Discovery Center in Hilo. This program introduces participants to the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument.

It is sponsored by Hawai’i Volcanoes Institute in partnership with the discovery center.

"The monument is the single largest conservation area under the U.S. flag, and one of the largest marine conservation areas in the world. Created in 2006, it encompasses 139,797 square miles of the Pacific Ocean — an area larger than all the country’s national parks combined," according to the PMNM website.

Participants in the program will "learn not only about the national monument, but also about the geology and ecology of Hawai’i and how these volcanic islands created unique ecosystems for marine life," says program leader Jennifer Nelson.

The Hawai’i Volcanoes Institute is part of the Friends of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, a nonprofit organization. Program cost is $40 for Friends members and $60 for nonmembers.

Students (K-12 and college with valid student ID) are half-price. The program is appropriate for youth ages 13 and up, supervised by an adult. Nonmembers are welcome to join the Friends to get the member price.
