Woman struck by car dies of injuries
An 80-year-old woman died Thursday of injuries she received when a car hit her as she was crossing Waialae Avenue in Kaimuki, police said.
The Medical Examiner’s Office identified her as Yasuko Tanonaka of Honolulu.
The accident happened at 11:35 a.m. Thursday near Center Street. Police said a car driven by a 22-year-old man hit Tanonaka, who was in a crosswalk.
Suspect in 3 bank robberies arrested
Honolulu police arrested a 27-year-old Wahiawa man suspected of robbing a Mililani American Savings Bank branch twice and holding up another American Savings Bank branch in Wahiawa.

Police said the suspect, wearing a white hat, bright yellow and orange safety vest, and slippers, demanded money and fled on foot at about 9 a.m. Tuesday from the American Savings Bank branch at the Mililani Town Center. He is also suspected of robbing the Wahiawa branch of American Savings Bank on the afternoon of Jan. 24 while wearing similar clothing. Police say the suspect was also wanted for the robbery of the Mililani bank at about noon Feb. 2.
Police located and arrested him on North Cane Street just before 11 a.m. Thursday.
Slain motorcyclist was Waipahu man
The motorcyclist who died in Thursday night’s crash on the H-1 freeway in Pearl City has been identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office as John Tyner, 49, of Waipahu.
The multiple-vehicle accident closed all Waianae-bound lanes of H-1 for four hours Thursday night as police cleared the freeway and investigated the crash.
Traffic investigators arrested a 19-year-old Ewa Beach man for investigation of negligent homicide after police said he drove a black 1990 Toyota pickup truck across a solid white line while entering the freeway from Moanalua Road at 9:23 p.m.
The pickup truck hit a white 2010 Nissan sedan, causing it to careen across the Waianae-bound lanes and hit the Zipper Lane barrier, police said.
A 2002 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by Tyner hit the back of the Nissan. Tyner was thrown from his motorcycle, which hit a blue 1999 Ford driven by a 19-year-old Honolulu man. Tyner died of blunt force injuries.
