Police are investigating the case of a 5-month-old girl who was hospitalized after being locked in a vehicle in Haleiwa for several hours around noon yesterday.

The girl was found unconscious after being left alone in an enclosed, locked vehicle “for several hours,” police said.

She was taken from the parking lot at the Haleiwa Joe’s restaurant on Kamehameha Highway to a nearby hospital in very serious condition about 12:11 p.m., a spokeswoman for the city Department of Emergency Services said.

The girl’s father, 41, is being investigated for second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, but has not been arrested.
