Chris Steis and his wife, Robin, were in the Soho district of New York City on a very cold evening this winter and found the Lani Kai cocktail lounge. The owner, Julie Reiner, used to live in Hawaii. Chris and Robin live in Falls Church, Va., and also own a condo in Waikiki.
