Mayor honors 80 exemplary senior citizens
Mayor Peter Carlisle today honored 80 Honolulu seniors for their service to the community and aloha spirit.
“Honolulu is truly blessed to have so many senior volunteers who serve unselfishly to help those in need,” Carlisle said at the 45th annual Mayor’s Senior Recognition Program at the Hawaii Convention Center. “We deeply appreciate all the ways they help from their hearts.”
U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye also congratulated the seniors for their service.
James A. Howell, nominated by the Sage Plus Program, and Anita Loando-Acohido, nominated by Our Lady of Sorrow Church, were named the 2011 Outstanding Male and Female Volunteers.
Also recognized were four Akamai Living Award winners: Eudice Schick, Colleen Minami, Shirley Ota and Felix Cabangon. They represent those who help people cope with life’s difficulties or assist organizations that deliver health care, recreational or social services.
