UH baseball: Valparaiso takes series with 7-2 victory
Valparaiso’s Damon McCormick struck out 10 in eight innings and Robbie Robinson delivered a two-run triple in the first inning of a 7-2 victory over Hawaii on Saturday night to take two of three in the series at Les Murakami Stadium.
Kolten Wong had two of UH’s four hits, finishing 7-for-12 in the series.
Hawaii (22-17 overall) lost its first series in four weeks as it readies itself for a four-game set at No. 14 Fresno State beginning on Friday.
The Rainbows (7-1 Western Athletic Conference) are a half-game ahead of the Bulldogs (8-3), who split a doubleheader against Sacramento State on Saturday.
Junior Connor Little (3-3) faced five batters, allowing two walks, two singles and a triple before leaving in the first inning.
Zach Gallagher kept the Rainbows in the game, throwing seven strong innings of one-run ball, walking one and striking out four.
