Civil Defense to test sirens this morning
Hawaii State Civil Defense will conduct the monthly test of the outdoor siren warning system and live audio broadcast at 11:45 a.m. today.
Besides the 45-second steady tone on all sirens, residents near Campbell Industrial Park, Honokai Hale, Makakilo, Kapolei Regional Park, Kapolei Golf Course, and the Coast Guard Station at Kalaeloa may also hear a “whooping” tone, civil defense officials said. This whooping tone is a test of the hazardous materials incident outdoor siren warning group.
If the siren in a community does not sound or operate properly, Oahu residents can call the Department of Emergency Management at 723-8960 or e-mail dem@honolulu.gov to report it.
If the sires are activated during an emergency, the public is advised to turn to any radio or television station for emergency information and instructions.
