» The American Veterinary Medical Association’s current Guidelines for Complementary and Alternative Veterinary Medicine (CAVM) advises veterinarians to exercise caution in using any alternative methods whose safety and effectiveness have not been proved by scientific method. The guidelines note that CAVM has not been supported by "a substantial body of scientific knowledge." A Page D1 article Tuesday, citing outdated guidelines, reported that the group called acupuncture "an integral part of veterinary medicine."
