Maui police are investigating a pedestrian accident early this morning on the Hana Highway in Kahului.
Police said a 1999 Honda Accord driven by a 32-year-old Pukalani man struck a 27-year-old Wailuku man walking on the Hana Highway near Hansen Road at 12:49 a.m. Both the Honda and the pedestrian were headed north on the highway.
Police said the victim was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. The driver of the Honda was not injured.
Investigators are looking into whether speed, drugs and alcohol were involved in the crash.
