A 23-year old man allegedly choked and assaulted his ex-girlfriend when she arrived at a home in the Doris Miller Park Navy housing area Tuesday morning, police said.

Police said the suspect got into an argument with a 23-year-old woman when she came to pick up her belongings at about 11 a.m.. The argument escalated and the man allegedly punched and choked the woman, who fled and locked herself in a bedroom to call 911. Police said the man forced his way into the bedroom and threatened to shoot the woman, took her cell phone and threw it away to prevent her from reporting the incident.

The suspect allegedly held her against her will while assaulting and terrorizing her. Police arrived, separated the victim and the suspect and arrested the man on suspicion of abuse of a household member, terroristic threatening, kidnapping and interference with reporting an emergency. A small handgun was also recovered, police said.
