Theft of trailer under investigation on Big Island
Big Island police are investigating the theft of a trailer loaded with $40,000 worth of glass paneling in Ookala.
The black PJ Gooseneck flatdeck trailer had an Oregon license plate with the number H584726 and was valued at $18,000.
Police said the flatbed was taken from the mauka side of Hawaii Belt Road between the 32- and 33-mile markers between Tuesday and Wednesday. A witness later reported seeing a brown older-model Ford pickup with its hood up next to the trailer about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday.
Officers found the glass load dumped and shattered along the makai side of Hawaii Belt Road between the 33- and 34-mile markers.
