3 South Korean films entered at Cannes fest

The 64th Cannes Film Festival started Wednesday with three South Korean films entered in the Un Certain Regard category. The three films are "The Murderer (aka ‘The Yellow Sea’)," "Arirang" and "The Day He Arrives."

Unfortunately, no South Korean films are in contention for the Palme d’Or, the highest honor awarded at Cannes. Last year, Korean films "Poetry" and "The Housemaid" were invited to the Palme d’Or competition.

Recently, commercial films in South Korea have been sluggish at the box office. Fortunately, there are many still to come this year, including a 3-D feature film.
