WAILUKU >> A Maui man who was seen with a loaded revolver two weeks after being released from prison is being sentenced to serve a new 10-year prison term.

Thirty-one-year-old Robert Azure had just completed a five-year sentence in July 2009 when he was seen with a gun in his waistband as he was leaving a bar at Kihei Kalama Village.

He wasn’t allowed to carry firearms because of his criminal history, which include 46 arrests and 23 convictions.

Deputy Prosecutor Justine Hura said Azure created a dangerous situation by carrying the gun, but defense attorney Kerry Ison said his client never threatened anyone with the weapon.

Azure’s prior convictions include multiple counts of promoting a dangerous drug, possessing drug paraphernalia and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle.
