City holding lei-sewing event Friday at Honolulu Hale

The city is inviting the public to a brown bag lunch Friday featuring hula, music and lei sewing in preparation for Memorial Day.

The city says the event to be held at Honolulu Hale Courtyard on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. will inaugurate the first of many planned brown bag lunches hosted by the mayor’s culture and arts office. The city says the events will bring the public together for old-fashioned socializing and networking.

The Royal Hawaiian Band is due to play music while Lei Day Queen Sandrina Lei Ilima Cabato De La Cruz will perform hula.

Lei sewed at the lunch will be placed on veterans’ grave markers at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, or Punchbowl, and other cemeteries in Hawaii for Memorial Day.
