Man arrested for using phony name to get passport

A 73-year-old man awaiting sentencing on wire fraud charges has been arrested after he tried to obtain a passport under a false identity.

According to a criminal complaint filed in federal court Wednesday Joseph William Sullivan was arrested Monday when he tried to pick up the passport.

The complaint says Sullivan on April 12 applied for a passport using a Massachusetts birth certificate in the name of Donald Elbert Allen and a Hawaii state identification card with the name Donald Allen.

An FBI official identified the photograph with the application as Sullivan, who had been indicted last year in a fraud case.

The FBI says Sullivan pleaded guilty in April to two counts of wire fraud and was scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 15.
