Man critically hurt in crash of his powered parachute

A man was in critical condition Saturday after his powered parachute crashed at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park in Haleiwa.

Police said the call came in about 4:20 p.m.

The man, who is about 60 years old, was using a parachute with a powered backpack when the pack malfunctioned and he fell about 100 feet to the ground, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor said.

He had abrasions to the left side of his body, including his shoulder, chest, abdomen and back, and was unresponsive when paramedics arrived, according to initial dispatch reports.

Husband held in wife’s kidnapping and assault

A 56-year-old Waikiki man was arrested Friday night after allegedly kidnapping and then assaulting his wife.

Police said an argument between the two about 6:15 p.m. escalated when the wife, 55, tried to leave their apartment and he restrained her from doing so. When she finally was able to escape, he caught her and assaulted her, police said.

The man was arrested on Ala Moana Boulevard pending charges of kidnapping and abuse of a household member.

Suspect out on bail after break-in at ex-girlfriend’s

Police arrested and charged a 31-year-old man after he allegedly violated a protective order by entering his ex-girlfriend’s home and holding her against her will.

According to police, Tyndale Tiolu entered the residence uninvited, questioned the woman about their relationship and prevented her from leaving for an hour. He was arrested for alleged unauthorized entry into a dwelling, kidnapping and violation of a protective order. He was released on $100,000 aggregate bail.
