University of Hawaii is offering free public information seminars on termite control.

The university said in a news release Monday termites are a serious problem in Hawaii and that it costs an estimated $100 million annually to control and repair termite damage.

Two free public information seminars sponsored by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources are to give homeowners tips on how to prevent and control the wood-eating insects.

Seminars are to be held June 21 and July 13 at Windward Community College and are to be led by the university’s termite experts.
