Okamoto moving up on LPGA Futures Tour

Ayaka Okamoto’s fourth-place finish Sunday moved her from 29th to 19th on the LPGA Futures Tour money list. The top 10 at the conclusion of the tournament season earn membership on the 2012 LPGA Tour.

Kaneko, a Sacred Hearts graduate from Honolulu, shot 5-under-par 67 in the final round of the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge in Marion, Iowa. It was the day’s lowest score and moved her from 43rd into a tie for fourth at 217. That was two shots behind winner Kathleen Ekey.

Kaneko has won $8,951 in five Futures starts this year.

Wahiawa’s Britney Choy (76—227) tied for 51st and won $740. Honolulu’s Xyra Suyetsugu, Pearl City’s Mari Chun and Mililani’s Lisa LaFollette missed the cut.

» Andy Okita played 36 holes at Ala Wai in 2-over-par 142 Saturday to earn Oahu’s qualifying berth for the U.S. Amateur Public Links. The national championship will be played June 27-July 2 at Bandon Dunes in Oregon. Okita opened with a 68, which was the day’s low round. First alternate is Kahara Sakurai (72-73) and second alternate is Skye Inakoshi (74-73). Mid-Pacific Institute graduate Alice Kim (74-75) tied for fourth.

» Honolulu’s Alex Ching, an incoming senior the University of San Diego, was named to the Golf Coaches Association of America All-West Region team.
