A Kaneohe-based Marine died Sunday from combat wounds received in Helmand province, Afghanistan, officials from Marine Corps Base Hawaii said today.

Pfc. Josue Ibarra, 21, of Midland, Texas, was a field artilleryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Kaneohe Bay. His unit deployed to Afghanistan in April. 

Ibarra joined the Marine Corps last June, and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment in December, 2010.

His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Marine officials said.
