Designing a ‘Five-0’ extra

This week the world famous Comic-Con opens in San Diego and even though our “Hawaii Five-0” cast will not be attending this year, it is interesting that the Monday, June 27 summer rerun will be “Na Me‘e Lāua Na Paio” or what ‘Five-0’ fans call the “Comic-Con” episode. Actually the “Hawaii Five-0” writers made up a comic book convention for that episode and called it “Spectacucon.” They literally had the Hawaii Convention Center decked out in Spectacucon branding complete with ID tags on their costumed participants and eco-friendly convention bags.
But most everyone in the ‘Five-0’ Hawaii-based Twitterverse (translation: people who follow each other on the Twitter universe) wanted to see the scene with McG and Danno heading up the escalator of the convention center, discussing their case, as costumed conventioneers head down the opposite way. Then they look over at a spectacular diva girl in a black and magenta costume, and Danno sees a guy in a dog costume behind her and says, brilliantly, “What’s up, Dawg?” Watch for that scene when the rebroadcast airs next week. Pay attention to the diva in the costume. Because she is played by our ‘Five-0’ Twitter friend Lisa Woo, who also designed and created the costume she wore on the episode.

Great post with super photos of Lisa Woo and her experience being a super extra and super fan on the set. You add the local connection that adds so much to my enjoyment of the series. All of your recent posts about the extras stress the hours of standing around the waiting to do something. That actually would be tough to do, despite being able to see how a show is filmed. Thank you for the insights.

Lisa has a great deal of talent. I think it’s so cool that H50 is willing to showcase the local talent outside of actors. So kudos to H50!
