Ewa Beach man charged with choking his roommate

An Ewa Beach man who allegedly beat, choked and threatened to kill his roommate Sunday morning has been charged with three counts of abuse of a household member and one count of second-degree terroristic threatening.

The 28-year-old suspect, of a Kilaha Street address, made his first appearance in District Court on Tuesday. He is being held at Oahu Community Center on $5,000 bail. The suspect had originally also been arrested on suspicion of attempted second-degree attempted murder but prosecutors chose not to pursue that charge.

According to police, the suspect punched his roommate, a 26-year-old man, and knocked him out around 7:10 a.m. Sunday. He then choked the victim until he passed out, police said. The roommate regained consciousness to find the suspect still choking him. Police arrested the suspect shortly after noon Sunday.
