Boy flown to Hilo after hitting head on pier, falling into ocean
An 8-year-old boy was taken by helicopter to Hilo after he slipped and struck his head on the pier at Pohoiki Boat Ramp in Pahoa and fell into the ocean Saturday night, Big Island firefighters said.
A lifeguard was treating the unconscious boy when firefighters arrived at 5:34 p.m. Bystanders said the boy had been playing on the pier when he slipped and hit his head and fell into the water, firefighters said.
