Downtown Honolulu is among the top 10 most expensive places to park in the United States, according to the Colliers International annual parking rate survey.

The median monthly parking rate of $217 a month ranks downtown Honolulu as the ninth-most expensive place to park, just ahead of Los Angeles, where it costs $210 a month for parking.

The report, released today, said midtown and downtown Manhattan are the most expensive places in the country to put your car. The median monthly rate is $541 in midtown and $533 downtown. The national average of those rates is just over $155.

Boston’s median was $438 and San Francisco car owners paid $375 a month.

The cheapest downtown parking can be found in Reno, Nev., at $45 month, followed by Phoenix at $50 and Bakersfield, Calif. at $53.

New York City parkers can at least be glad they’re not in London. The survey from Colliers International found the most expensive monthly parking rate in the world there, at $1,084.

Colliers chief economist Ross Moore says parking rates have been more or less flat in the last couple of years across the U.S. because of the overall economic downturn.

Honolulu’s median parking rate is down slightly from last year when Colliers said downtown parking cost about $222 a month.
