Driver held in alleged hit-and-run injury of Waipahu boy, 3

Police arrested a 30-year-old man who allegedly drove off after hitting a 3-year-old boy with a pickup Friday night in Waipahu.

Police said the collision happened on Kaaholu Street near Hoikaika Place about 6:45 p.m.

Paramedics took the boy to the hospital in good condition after he apparently darted across the street and was hit by the pickup, police said.

Witnesses got the truck’s license plate and officers located the vehicle within an hour.

The alleged driver was found in Waipahu about 8:30 p.m. and arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for an accident involving bodily injury and driving without a license.
