Traffic backed up on Ala Moana Boulevard after a construction crane knocked down a utility line Thursday night.
Two people sustained minor injuries Thursday night after a crane hit a hanging utility line near a construction site in Waikiki.
A crane being pulled on a flatbed truck snagged the overhead line as the vehicle pulling it made a left turn from Ala Moana Boulevard to Hobron Lane, said a man who witnessed the incident about 8:30 tonight.
"Snapped it right off," he said. "It came flying. It was scary."
The accident was followed by the noise of metal falling and a taxi blaring it’s horn, he said.
An Emergency Medical Service supervisor said a man and a woman sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment from paramedics.
Police said Hawaiian Telcom responded to repair the broken utility wire, which was not an electrical wire.
A couple hours after the incident, a black wire about three inches thick lay draped over a palm tree fronting the ABC Superette on the corner of Hobron Lane.
Yellow tape closed off the sidewalk. The crane was supposed to be used for a construction project by Goodfellow Bros on Ala Moana Boulevard near Hobron.
