Solomon Islands get magnitude-6.0 shake; no tsunami generated
A magnitude-6.0 earthquake rattled the Solomon Islands in the Pacific Ocean northeast of Australia, the U.S. Geological Survey reported today.
The quake struck 17 miles east-northeast of Kira Kira in the Solomons at about 9:04 a.m. Thursday (12:05 p.m. Wednesday in Hawaii) and no tsunami warning was issued. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The GeoSciences Australia agency said a quake that strong could cause damage within 23 miles.
