Two-story Big Island home destroyed by fire that touched off propane tank
A two-story home on the Big Island was destroyed Wednesday in a fire that set off a large propane gas tank explosion that blew off part of the garage roof.
No one was injured in the 10:12 a.m. fire in Oceanview Parkway in the Blacksands subdivision, Big Island firefighters said.
Firefighters arrived to find the first floor engulfed in flames and to hear a loud explosion, which turned out to be a 100-gallon tank of liquefied petroleum gas.
Firefighters brought the fire under control by 10:45 a.m. and extinguished it at 3 p.m.
The fire caused $190,000 in damage; its cause remained undetermined.
