Wednesday’s brush fire on Kauai destroyed 2 homes, damaged several others and scorched 50 acres of land in Koloa, officials said today.

The American Red Cross assisted affected residents who were displaced by the blaze. No one was injured.

Officials had originally said only one home was destroyed.

Kauai County spokeswoman Sarah Blane said two homes on Kipuka Street were destroyed. Three homes and a shed on the same street were also damaged.

Damage to the six structures was estimated at $950,000.

Firefighters first responded to the brush fire near Ala Kinoiki Road at about 2 p.m. yesterday. Residents of nearly 100 homes along Weliweli Tract were evacuated. Firefighters extinguished the blazed at 6:30 p.m.
