Campbell upsets No. 9 Waianae in OIA football

Campbell’s Justin Tago floated a pass high and toward the corner of the end zone. It seems like the ball was in the air for an eternity.

On the other end, Keoni Piceno went up, caught it and kept his feet just inbounds.

The Tago-to-Piceno combination came through with an 8-yard touchdown pass as host Campbell beat No. 9 Waianae 21-14 in overtime in an Oahu Interscholastic Association Red West game Friday night at Campbell.

The Sabers had the ball at the 20 to start overtime. On the fifth play of the drive, Tago, a left-hander, rolled to his left and lobbed the ball back across the field for Piceno in the end zone. Piceno made a spectacular leaping grab just within the right sideline. Jaelen Subia-Etrata’s PAT gave Campbell a 21-14 lead.

Waianae gained just one yard on its overtime possession.
