Man who died after canoe flipped is identified

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s office identified a 47-year-old man who apparently drowned while canoeing off Waikiki as Eugene Diamond of Honolulu.

Police said Diamond was found unresponsive in the water by a passing catamaran about 10:45 a.m. Thursday after his canoe flipped over. He was taken to the hospital where he died. An autopsy will be done Monday. Police said foul play is not suspected.
