Flags to fly at half-staff Thursday for Judge ‘Kats’ Miho

Gov. Neil Abercrombie has ordered that U.S. and Hawaii flags be flown at half staff at state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Thursday in honor of former state lawmaker and Judge Katsugo “Kats”?Miho, who died Sept. 11 at age 89.

Miho, a native of Maui, served with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during World War II. In 1959, he was elected to the state House of Representatives and served five terms. He later served eight years as a Family Court judge.

He is survived by his wife, Laura M.; son, Arthur K.; daughters, Carolyn M. Miho, Celia Y. Fujikami and Ann T. Johnson; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the service will be begin at 5 p.m.

“Kats Miho was a unique person in the best sense of the word. He was always encouraging and supportive of the best in you — never pessimistic of Hawaii or its future,” Abercrombie said in a news release.
