UH soccer team bounced from WAC tournament
The Hawaii women’s soccer team’s final Western Athletic Conference season is over after a 2-1 loss to New Mexico State in the WAC tournament opening round today in Fresno, Calif.
First-year coach Michele Nagamine went 5-12-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the WAC regular season. That was good for third place in the eight-team league.
UH freshman midfielder Krystal Pascua scored unassisted in the 19th minute from about 25 yards out to give UH a 1-0 lead, but the sixth-seeded Aggies evened the match in the 42nd minute and the teams took a 1-1 tie into halftime.
NMSU got the go-ahead score on its third effort on a counterattack in the 63rd minute. The Rainbow Wahine were unable to get a clear shot on goal to equalize in the waning minutes.
It was UH’s final season in the WAC before leaving for the Big West Conference next season.
