The Coast Guard assisted a vessel that got into trouble Friday night off the coast of Kauai.

The 47-foot sailboat Whistling Oyster hit an object off the coast of Kauai and began to taking on water, the Coast Guard said.

The crew of two put out a mayday call that was picked up by a Pride of America cruise ship and relayed to the Coast Guard about 11:30 p.m.

Using a water pump, the sailboat’s crew was able to remove the water as it seeped in.

The Coast Guard dispatched a vessel from Kauai to escort the sailboat back to Oahu. A rescue vessel from Honolulu took over the escort at 8:15 a.m. Saturday and the sailboat arrived safely at Ko Olina at 1:54 p.m., the Coast Guard said.
