Officials identify body of Lihue man found near Nawiliwili
Kauai authorities have identified the body of a man found Nov. 4 in shallow water near the Nawiliwili Yacht Club as that Roy Shiroma, 90, of Lihue. Foul play is not suspected, police said.
A fisherman came upon the body about 11:05 p.m. Nov. 4 while catching opae (freshwater shrimp) near the base of a floating wooden dock used by kayak companies.
Shiroma’s body was pulled out of the water by a friend of the fisherman, who then began CPR.
Police arrived and continued CPR until paramedics arrived.
Efforts to revive Shiroma were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at Wilcox Hospital.
Autopsy results are pending, police said.
