Accused police major’s hearing rescheduled to Nov. 29
Honolulu police Maj. Carlton Nishimura will remain in custody at least through Thanksgiving.
At Nishimura’s request, Federal Magistrate Judge Richard L. Puglisi rescheduled a hearing to Nov. 29 on the government’s request to order Nishimura held without bail pending trial for drug possession.
Nishimura, 55, was free on bond awaiting trial on charges of extortion, making false statements and witness tampering when the FBI arrested him at his Waianae home Monday on a charge of possessing with intent to distribute at least 50 grams of methamphetamine.
The FBI said it found about half a pound of the drug in the home and other items consistent with drug distribution including numerous clear plastic bags and digital scales.
Nishimura is a 31-year veteran of the Honolulu Police Department.
The department said it placed Nishimura on unpaid leave following his arrest Monday. He was previously on paid administrative leave.
