Officials to open Kalanianaole Highway lane closed due to water main break

Repairs to a broken water main on Kalanianaole Highway are expected to be done by 4 p.m. which should ease the commute home for East Honolulu residents, city Board of Water Supply officials said.

The left, Koko Head-bound lane on Kalanianaole is currently closed, but is expected to reopen by 4 “barring any unforeseen circumstances,” officials said.

The 24-inch main, about 150 yards east of Keahole Street, broke early this morning.

Crews are currently backfilling the trench. That will be followed by patching of the road.

No water customers were affected by the break.

Meanwhile, a water crew continues repairing a 12-inch waer main on Kuliouou Road near Wakine Place which also broke early this morning.

Crews are in the process of excavating the water main and locating the leak. Kuliouou Road between Keoki Place and Pahukula Place remains closed. Area residents are advised to use Elelupe Road instead. Special duty officers and traffic cones are positioned at the break site to alert motorists of the road closures.

Some 24 customers are affected by the break. A water wagon is on scene.

Repairs are expected to continue into the evening.
