Firefighters rescue lost hikers in Laie
Firefighters were helping two women Thursday night after they got lost while hiking a trail behind Brigham Young University.
The women hiked a one-hour walk to a waterfall and called for help shortly after 7 p.m. after losing they way heading back, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
A fire helicopter was launched to help firefighters spot the women, but the canopy was too dense to see them from the air. Rescue specialists hiked in and were able to find the women. Seelig said they were leading the women out and the group was expected to come out of the forest about 9 p.m. No one was hurt.
