Stadium Park homeless move back in after cleanup
Some homeless campers moved back to the sidewalk next to Old Stadium Park, once city crews finished a cleanup this morning.
The city moved the campers out Tuesday night so that crews could clean the sidewalks and check the condition of the park, said city spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy.
A few campers took advantage of offers to go to the IHS shelter, while others spent the night on the sidewalk across the street, McCoy said.
Some began returning this afternoon. Others made camp on the sidewalk across the street in front of the old Long’s Drug store location.
McCoy said the cleanup was planned weeks in advance and the Waikiki Health Center and IHS notified the campers that they would have to move from Old Stadium Park and Moiliili Park.
She said the cleanup is part of normal maintenance for the parks and partly a response to citizen complaints about access to the park and the sidewalk.

Crews from the Department of Parks and Recreation and the Department of Facility Maintenence power washed the sidewalks and cleaned up in the parks.
Crews returned this morning to assess the condition of the park in the daylight and to check storm drains, McCoy said.
She said a bill that would ban camping and storing property on sidewalks is still making its way through the City Council.
