Maui officials investigate cause of Kula cottage fire
Maui fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire in a Kula cottage Thursday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived at 16200 Haleakala Crater Road, the site of a single-story cottage, at 5:41 p.m. and had the blaze extinguished by 6:07 p.m., Maui officials said.
The fire was contained to one room and caused an estimated $2,000 in damages to the 400-square-foot cottage and $1,000 to its contents.
The cottage was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
