Hilo murder suspect turns himself in to police

A 21-year-old Hilo man suspected of killing a 44-year-old man during a fight outside a sports bar turned himself in Monday morning to Hawaii County police.

Police arrested at 10:07 a.m. the Mountain View man on suspicion of second-degree murder, but he has not been charged.

Police said the suspect and Roy Williams Jr. were involved in an altercation early Saturday morning when Williams fell and hit his head on the pavement.

Witnesses flagged down patrol officers just after 3 a.m. Saturday on Makaala Street in Hilo.

Officers found Williams lying on the roadway.

Williams was taken to Hilo Medical Center, and later transported to the Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, where he died Sunday night from his injuries.

The suspect is being held at the Hilo police cellblock, but had not been charged as of Monday.
