Man pleads guilty to attempted murder in Aiea Bowl shooting

A man accused of attempted murder for shooting another man in the shoulder following a confrontation at Aiea Bowl pleaded guilty in state court Monday to first-degree assault.

Honolulu police said Joseph Pasion shot Landon Dela Cruz on Apr. 30 in the parking lot of Aiea Shopping Center. Police said the shooting was the culmination of a dispute between Pasion and Dela Cruz that started in Aiea Bowl, where Pasion was celebrating his birthday.

As part of Pasion’s plea deal with the state, the prosecutor agreed to drop a class A firearms charge.

Pasion still pleaded guilty to several other firearms violations, including being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and carrying a firearm without a permit.

Pasion, 31, faces maximum 10-year prison terms for the assault and firearms charges when he is sentenced in February.
