Small quakes rattle California; no damage

COBB, Calif. >> A small quake has shaken a rural mountain area in Northern California.

A computer-generated U.S. Geological Survey report says the magnitude-3.3 quake struck at 1:58 a.m. Thursday and was centered at The Geysers south-southwest of the community of Cobb.

A Lake County sheriff’s dispatcher says no one reported feeling the quake.

The Geysers is a complex of 22 geothermal power plants in the Mayacamas Mountains about 70 miles north of San Francisco.

Hours earlier, a magnitude-4.0 quake off the Humboldt County coast was reported at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday about 85 miles southwest of Eureka. A police dispatcher says they didn’t get any calls.

And in Southern California, a magnitude-2.8 quake centered in Hawthorne, about 12 miles southwest of Los Angeles. It struck at 10:33 p.m. Wednesday.
