Michael M. Contrades, a 17-year veteran of the Kauai Police Department, was appointed deputy chief today, Police Chief Darryl Perry announced.

Contrades joined the department in July 1994. He has served as a supervisor in the Patrol Services Bureau in the Waimea and Lihue Districts. He is a former property crimes detective and oversaw the department’s asset forfeiture program while assigned to the vice unit.

He has served as Hanalei district commander, was promoted to captain in January and assigned to oversee operations in the Patrol Services Bureau. He helped develop the Kauai Police Activities League Youth Center in Kapaa, the department said.
