‘Aunty the wreath bandit’ caught on surveillance video stealing
A woman workers have dubbed "Aunty, the wreath bandit," was caught on security video stealing a Christmas wreath from the elevator in Kapahulu.
"They didn’t have time to stop at a store. They took a five-finger discount and took it off the wall," said Scott Higashi, executive vice president of sales at Prudential Locations. The elevator where the theft happened is at the Kapahulu Avenue building that houses Prudential Locations and Side Street Inn on Da Strip.
The video, posted on YouTube, shows the woman and man entering the elevator from Side Street Inn on the night of Dec. 15. Seconds later, the woman, dressed in a light blue-and-white printed blouse and white pants, pulls the wreath off the wall and tucks it around her arm.
As the woman and man exit the elevator, a Side Street employee steps in and immediately notices the missing wreath, but before he can chase after the couple or notify a manager, the elevator doors close.
Robbie Acoba, operations manager at Side Street Inn on Da Strip, said while only a wreath was stolen, "it’s the principle." It’s still a theft, no matter how big or small, he said.
