Florida Gulf Coast runs past UH women’s basketball team
The Hawaii women’s basketball team couldn’t keep pace with Florida Gulf Coast in a 72-52 loss tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Rainbow Wahine (5-9) fell behind early and caught the Eagles (9-2) at 27-27 late in the first half. But FGCU closed the half on a 10-0 run and pulled away from there to win for the ninth time in its last 10 games.
FGCU hit seven of its nine 3-pointers in the second half while UH made just one of nine attempts from long range in the game. The Eagles also made 13 of 14 free throws and committed just two turnovers.
UH committed 13 of its 17 turnovers in the second half, leading to 15 points for FGCU, and went 11-for-21 from the line.
FGCU guard Nicoya Jackson led all scorers with 19 points. Sarah Hansen added 15 and Eglah Griffin scored all 12 of her points in the second half.
Sophomore Vicky Tagalicod led UH with 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting. Forward Kamilah Jackson finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season.
