Police subdued a man in his early 30s tonight after he holed himself up in a home and threatened to kill himself in Pearl City.

Officers forced their way into the Hoolaulea Street home shortly before 10 p.m. and subdued the man without injuries. He was being taken to the Queen’s Medical Center for mental observation.

Police said the man reportedly was armed with knives and a blow torch. Officers were able to get the man out of the house before calling a SWAT team.

Officers first responded to the home after a woman called police about 9:10 p.m. and said her friend was in a house and suicidal.
