Police officer assaulted at a Maili beach

A police patrol officer was assaulted when he tried to arrest a man for a liquor violation at a Maili Beach Friday morning.

Police said the officer heard loud noises coming from the beach across from the Nanakuli McDonald’s restaurant about 12:25 a.m. and stopped to investigate. When he was about to arrest one man for a liquor violation, a second man tried to interfere. As assisting officers tried to subdue the second man, a third man assaulted one of the arresting officers.

The injured officer, a member of the Kapolei patrol district, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated for undisclosed injuries and released.

A Maili man, 36, was arrested for first-degree assault of a law enforcement officer. A second man, 27, of Waianae, was arrested for resisting arrest. The third man escaped and remains at large.
