Medical examiner: Maui man did not die as result of Makena crash
A 61-year-old Maui man died early this morning when his SUV veered off the road on the south coast of Maui and hit a tree.
However, Maui police said the death of Bernardo Ragmat is being investigated as an unattended death and not a traffic fatality because the medical examiner said Ragmat did not die as a result of the crash.
Police said the one-car accident occurred at 4:32 a.m. on Makena Alanui Road nearly a mile south of Wailea Golf Club Drive in Makena.
The victim was driving south on the Makena Alanui Road in a white Toyota 4Runner when he failed to make a left handturn and traveled off the road hitting a tree.
An autopsy is being conducted the cause of death.
