Man arrested in connection with fatal stabbing in Waikiki
Police arrested a 42-year-old Wahiawa man Friday in connection with a fatal stabbing following a confrontation over a stolen bag last weekend in Waikiki.
Detectives had identified the man, and officers arrested him at his Plam Street home about 6:20 p.m., police said. He was booked at the Wahiawa police station for investigation of second-degree murder and second-degree assault — both in connection with last weekend’s confrontation — and two contempt warrants.
Killed was Brycen Iona, 20, of Kaneohe, who died of a stab wound to the chest.
Police said Iona was part of a group that was walking near the concession area of Queen’s Surf about 2:25 a.m. Sunday and stole a bag and ran to their car. A friend of owner of the bag chased down the men, confronted them, and an argument ensued, police said.
Iona struck the man and the man stabbed him and another man, who had minor injuries, police said.
